Volumetrics Analysis
Volumetrics is an image processing method linked with preprocessing steps and a multi-atlas segmentation workflow that utilizes image registration systems (e.g. MRI and CT). The overall goal is to report volumetric measurements of selected regions of interest (ROI).
Preprocessing consists of improving signal-to-noise ratio while maintaining local structure and removing superficial regions outside the analyzed organ. Multi-atlas segmentation depends on a pre-labelled reference library that is mapped to establish the ROIs of the dataset, ROIs are a study specific component which can vary from whole brain to lung volume. All ROIs are visually inspected and manually edited as needed during technical quality control by trained image processing specialists. This analytical approach supports the research of neurodegeneration, radiation dosimetry, cardiac function and musculoskeletal development.
